Chapter 1 introduces you to the Visual Basic - the Programming Language, explains various elements and the method of programming in Visual Basic and other basic features of Visual Basic.
Chapter 2 introduces the most common controls used while designing applications. Also discusses various methods for making a choice in user interface by using Check box, option box and combo box.
Chapter 3 covers the basic to get started on the programming adventure. It leads you to the world of programming commands, structures and variables. It also explains how to control your program through the use of decisions and loops.
Chapter 4 tells you all about using the common dialog boxes and developing the menu for an application.
Chapter 5 discusses how program can use different types of files for information storage and retrieval purpose.
Chapter 6 covers the basic to get started on the database programming adventure. It leads you to the world of data controls, bound controls and data access controls which automate and simplify many of the data access tasks.
Chapter 7 discuss the database engine and data access object (DAO), which provide an excellent means of developing data entry and data viewing programs for almost any need.
Chapter 8 explains the basics of SQL statements as they apply to Visual Basic programming. This chapter discusses both data manipulation language (DML) SQL statements and data definition language (DDL) SQL statements.
Chapter 9 discuss computing with large networks and multiple users and client/server database applications. The database files can reside on a shared file server, but each application that uses the database contains the Database Engine code. Visual Basic supports Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) to access database servers and RDO (Remote Data Objects) to develope remote application.
Chapter 10 harnesses the programming power available for creating database applications using ActiveX Data Objects (ADO). It introduces the latest model for accessing databases.
Chapter 11 shows you how to output data from the database applications using Data Report Designer and different reporting tools.
